the DEFINITIVE diy GUIDE TO DOCUMENTARY WEDDING & FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY:

Definitely Documentary

Do you get lost in other photographers’ images on Instagram, wondering how they get such real & natural-looking moments?

Is your biggest hangup that people just won’t stop looking at the camera and cheesin’ when you are trying to photograph their organic and honest expressions?

Do you find it difficult to communicate how to be present, and instead find your clients waiting for you to control their every movement?

Or maybe you are just plain old-tired of feeling the pressure to have EVERY person in every photo be perfect. You want to embrace the imperfect nature of life, the real emotions as they happen.

If you agreed with any of these, then I have something for you.

ready to level up your THING?

Definitely Documentary

You know what your work *could* be.

Your favourite photos are those emotive, energetic, and iconic images that you manage to capture sporadically throughout a wedding day or family session— and you just want MORE.
More emotion.
More energy.
More real life.

If this sounds like you then Definitely Documentary is... (wait for it)...
definitely for you.

This mini video course is fun, easy to digest, and quick to transform into actual skills. I’ll take you through every aspect of documentary photography to help you become more knowledgeable, prepared, confident and excited for your next session.

the pressure is real.

The pressure from the world to be homogenous in our photography is strong.

From social media to AI to all of the cookie-cutter Lightroom presets, we are encouraged to blend in rather than stand out. We think that in order to succeed, we need to impersonate instead of honestly creating art from a place of genuine understanding and caring.

Let’s just be clear on this from the very beginning.

This is more than a course. This is a movement.

This is a movement of photographers who want to capture truly meaningful images for their clients, creating art that actually matters — art that matters to clients, photographers, and the world.

And I’m so thrilled that you want to be a part of it.

Meet your teacher

Hi, I'm Bobbi, and I'm Cheering for Life with Less Vanilla.

Life isn’t perfect. That would be boring. So let’s make our work as unboring (and therefore real) as possible by truly learning how to document the hearts of our clients, celebrating the unfiltered beauty of people.

I think it is very important to trust whom you learn from so here are a few things you should know about me:

I live in a small, rural town in Canada but am still able to make multi-six figures each year doing documentary weddings and families.

I’ve won well over 7 dozen awards from all the big international juried doc competitions (This is Reportage, Fearless Photographers, Documentary Family Awards, etc)

I host the Tilt and Shift Photography Business Podcast where I talk with industry leaders about pivots in their lives and how you can incorporate their lessons into your business.

I run trail ultramarathons and recently fulfilled a dream to run the Manaslu circuit in Nepal!

I want nothing more than to help photographers come together and elevate the photography industry with images that show gratitude and grace for the perfectly imperfect human experience.

And that's why we're doing this.

  • Are passionate about photographing people in their genuine experiences
  • Love to learn and improve your work
  • Are a fun and compassionate human
  • Like to get nerdy about the deeper meaning of photography
  • Are COMMITTED to being the best photographer you can be
  • Show up genuinely and ready to get outside your comfort zone
  • Love to support and challenge others, as well as yourself

But what's more important is that you...

“The impact Bobbi had on me as an artist has grown me in all the corners of my creative life. Seriously. ”

“I can't believe the changes and drastic improvements my art has made."

how i got here

I'm a slow learner. So slow. I share my struggle so you don't have to.

When I first started photography, I struggled to figure out my style. I only knew one thing for sure: I felt uncomfortable trying to fit the mold of a traditional photographer.

And let me tell you, I tried to fit the mold but the results were anything but exceptional. And even when I tried to branch out, nothing fit quite right.

It just all felt so ‘meh.’

It took me a while to figure out what I was missing. And it turns out that what I was missing was my unique perspective

It was once I accepted how I saw the world, not like what I saw on IG, that the real changes began. Not only was I no longer frustrated and uninspired but I also found that other people started caring about my work.

It turns out that the only way to build a strong business is to make a business that you really care about and to create work that is meaningful.

And when you consistently show up in that space, other people take notice and want to be a part of it.

Definitely Documentary

This is the documentary photography course I wish I had when I first started.

I’ll share with you my top tricks to composition that have led to dozens of awards.

We’ll focus on creating relationships that translate into images (my absolute jam) and how that is at the core of documentary work.

And I will walk you through how to find your own personal voice and what that means to your business.

Plus, you’ll get to do this all at your own pace, with forever access to the course. There is even a Facebook group where you can ask for help.

I’ve made it my mission to help other photographers stand out in the crowded market by teaching you how to tell meaningful stories, embrace your own voice, and how to be uninfluenced by the influencers.
